What: Retreat to connect in community and take a break for a single day from our phones and other digital technologies.
Why: Do you find yourself using your phone, Internet, social media, or other digital technologies far more than you intend? If yes, you are not alone. Our attachment to our digital technologies is an increasing concern in our lives. Taking a 24-hour break from our phones isn’t easy to do alone, so think of this as a collective effort where we “digital detox” with the support of this community to help each of us explore why we are so attached, how we can shift our habits, and why this can improve our relationship with ourselves and others. This community digital detox will be especially meaningful after the busy winter holiday season and is a timely way to kick off your new year with a fresh reset!
Where: Ritual Wellness House, 2114 P St, Sacramento, CA 95816. Parking lot spaces are available directly across the street, just check the signs for the designated Ritual parking spots.
When:
Opening circle on Saturday, January 24, 9:00am - 11:30am:
Michelle Webb and Jenelle Perez will help us ground with a sound journey. Then we’ll kick off our digital detox officially with an opening circle led by Steve Chan to set and discuss our intentions for the digital detox day with a few helpful exercises. Depending on group size, our opening circle will wrap up around 11:30am.
After, we’ll invite you for 2 optional group activities to connect and deepen your digital detox: a) conversation game in pairs at a nearby cafe b) potluck at a nearby residential space (see more details and sign up for this portion on our preparation page). Or if you prefer alone time afterwards, we'll guide you towards other great digital detox such as finding a book to read at the library.
& Closing circle on Sunday January 25, 9:00am - 11:30am:
Kiran Pal will hold a guide us in a nurturing hatha yoga session as we wrap up our 24-hour detox. Then we will hold a closing circle to share and reflect as a group on our digital detox day experience.
